Log
line (1): |
Maurice goes out on a limb to spice up his newspaper's
coverage by hiring an unnamed reporter given to clandestine meetings. Maggie talks to trees, but Joel won't listen, and to ease Holling's
tax debts, Chris become a partner at the Brick, where
he sets about sprucing up the place. |
Synopsis
(1): |
Maurice starts a local campaign to support the Cicely News and World Telegram.
To spark public interest in the paper, he hires Adam as his anonymous writer. Adam's first story is about talking trees, which causes
the paper's sales to go sky high. A follow-up story on botanical espionage by
the government brings a defamation lawsuit by the Justice Department, as well
as a 400 percent increase in sales. In addition, a Japanese multinational corporation
buys six months of advertising in advance. But just when the paper is expanding
into two sections, ace reporter Adam disappears, sending circulation into a
tailspin.
Holling is in trouble with
the IRS for not paying taxes since 1959. Willing to own up to his debt to the
government, but somewhat short on cash, he asks Chris to buy half-interest in
the bar. Chris, who has been feeling a bit down lately, gratefully jumps at
the chance to become a tavern halfowner. However, he goes overboard with his
new ideas to enhance business, and suddenly Holling feels out of place in his
own bar. But before being asked by Holling to stop what he is doing, Chris confesses
that he wants out of the bar business because it simply does not feel right. |
Background
(Production
Bible): |

patched him up after a fight. Eve's got thyroditis and is in Hunan at Dr. M.
Chang's acupunture clinic. Joel was #54 in a class of 140. |
